Red face Help Me Connect My Wired Router.

I am on a Telewest Blueyonder (now Virgin) 4MB cable connection using a Motorola SURFboard 5100 modem and a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port Wired router.

I would like to connect to PC's wired to the internet and for file sharing, etc.
I have followed the guide and with no luck in network settings all I am getting is "Limited or no connectivity" on both machines.

Does anyone have a guide that I can follow to set this up successfully, it is the first time i have networked.

I have emailed my ISP for my connection details, IP, Subnet Mask, DNS, Domain Name etc. but they have not replied, is there a way I can find out these myself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Assuming you are using windows, to find your DNS:

IP will be dynamic unless you have paid for a static one.

Troubleshooting cable modems: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...tips/hist.html

Would perhaps help if you try connecting without the router to begin with to make sure your modem is connecting.

Also, depending how you registered, you may need to enter your pc's MAC address into your router settings.

P.S the 2 PCS are connected to the router and the router is connected to my cable modem with straight cables.

I have powered everything down, turned on my modem and waited for a minute, turned on the router and waited then powered up my PC's but nothing. I have entered Computer and Domain names into the fields and that doesn't work either.

Do I have to set the port forwarding?

Do I need to upgrade the firmware?
