Default Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi

Hey guys, I am considering buying this laptop, and would like to get an estimation of how many years it would last.

CPU : AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz, Dual Core)
RAM : 2048 MB (2 x 1024) DDR2
Hard Disk Drive : 160 GB (5400 rpm)
GPU : ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 - 512 MB
OS : Vista Ultimate
Webcam, WiFi b/g, BlueTooth, HDMI out…

Well?

I would be primarily using it for school; Office suite, as well as internet browsing, email and MSN, probably some music listening and maybe mild gaming.

lol pretty mild gaming, but ok should last like 3 years, depending on how much performance you "can bare" using at the 3 year mark

it should run new programs much longer after that, but ive seen people with 10 year old laptops...

Well?? If no gaming, how long?

Take into consideration the DUAL CORE, 64 BIT, 2 GIGS RAM and VISTA ULTIMATE.

doesn't matter. in 3-5 years, multi-core processors(8-10 cores), 4 gigs of ram and that new MS OS that they swear has the bugs worked out, again, will be out. You wanna buy something that will last, buy a macbook pro. Standardization is the key to longevity.

OK fine, but I'm still asking how much it will last for just the usage listed above.

its a good note book but overpriced for the features; as an alternative i would go for a travelmate 8200 as they have the option of a better graphics chip which will help more in the long run.

3 years tops is my estimation for that system

here's a link to the travelmate 8210 on the Acer UK site

the 8200 was phased out due some small problems so they reworked the unit and its much better
