I have read somewhere that this is something you should wear when working inside computers, as it is supposed to take the static electricity from your body, and thus protect the parts from possible damage. Does anyone know anything about this, like how good/necessary they are, what they cost, ect.? Thanks.

I never worry about it. I touch a doorknob before I start working my computer. That way if there is any static built in you, it'll be released by doing so. Either that or you can wear your shoes in the house.

Personally I have never considered such a bracelet or any such measures. Touch your computer case before doing anything. Aside from being metal, it's made to be a ground

I have an Antistatic wristband, which I use during bigger upgrades, ie. replacing the motherboard. It is just an extra safety precaution. I value my computer parts, cause I don't have extra money to spend to replace them

I've talked to people that work on computers as a living, and even they think it's a little bit of overkill. Just exercise a little bit of caution, and you should be fine.
