Default Video Cards & 64 Bit Win XP

I am about to buy a middle of the road ($400, prbly ATi XTX1900 or something) video card, but I have heard of weird issues with 64-bit WinXP. What sort of problems will I have?

The reason I use the 64 bit XP is because I tried running my hardware config on 32 bit and it was soooo unstable. I do notice nicer speeds on 64 bit and it seems quite stable. Sure, I have to print everything from my laptop, but I can live with the trade off so far.

I have heard that DirectX is not compatible with 64 bit XP... if so, isn't that a massive problem. Why would anyone with a 64 bit XP want a video card?

Any other issues I am missing here?

Thanks as always.

EDIT: What about Vista 64 bit... any thoughts there?

Vista 64 bit is really stable, but then the drivers are another thing. I have a nvidia card and although their drivers are stable, its far from complete.
