Remote access to a coputer behind router

I have a computer at home behind router DLink DL-524, and I want to get remote access to this computer (Windows XP Professional is installed).

How do I do it? Do I need just IP of this computer or I need to do something fancy with ports of the router? What is the simplest way?

You'll have to open the port on your router for whatever remote access program your using and assign it to the IP address of your computer. Then you have to know your IP assigned by your ISP(which sometimes is dynamic...)

My IP is static, but to open port I need to know private IP. How do I know this?

Can you help me to config my router for this?

Yes, the standard port for XP/2003 remote desktop is 3389, so on that page just set both ports to 3389, and your local ip and so on

you need to log in to your routers setup, im guessing this is the web interface. you then need to set up port forwading. you sellect which port, and you choose a destination. this destination needs to be the internal IP address of the computer you want to connect to. do find this, on that computer go to start>run and type IPconfig. this will tell you its IP.

Here are the pictures from both computers with all firewalls being off. Sorry for some Russian, in DOS window on computer "TO" first IP Address, second "Subnet Mask", third -- Default Gateway. On "My Computer", properties, connection, allow remote connection.

My user account Victor has a password which I am entering...

You can skip all the steps above and use www.logmein.com

EDIT: I found it: remotelyeverything. Very good, unfortunatly free only for 30 days ..

But I understood how to use remote desktop as well!!!
