Default IE7 and Vista

IE7 in Vista. How do i make the internet explorer 7 icon in windows vista permanent and not a shortcut? Why would microsoft even do this, i think it is the stupidest thing ever.

You can't make anything on the desktop permanent. Windows itself is simply a larger combination of GUIs that are loaded into memory. Desktop icons are all shortcuts to either something found in the Start menu>Programs or a direct link to an executable in a folder somewhere on one drive or another.

If you want you can use IconTweeker to remove the little white arrow showing it's a shortcut?

Like so:

Yeah, but you can remove the icon like in the screenshot I posted, It makes it look a lot neater in my opinion.

Nah i meant like, in XP if you right click on IE you can click properties and get to the internet explorer properties, its just a few less steps than opening it up and going to internet tools or going into the control panel.

Another thing to point out is that if an icon was made permanent what happens when IE 8 comes out and you want to install that? You would then see two IE icons buried into the desktop which would present the problem of how to change the background then.
