Default should i go linux instead of windows xp home???

i need to buy an operating system, for sure. my old windows xp is fried and i cant fix it. i dont have a cd-key either. i wanted to know if linux is as good as windows, and does it have as many features. i play LOADS of games and i have a good system too. are all my components supported?

ATI radeon x800GTO
athlon64 3400@2.4ghz
1.25 gbOCZ ram
two DVD reader and writer

also, does linux feature things like desktops, can i condigure it to act like windows, can i right click on an icon and it display my options, like properties, send to, open with, that kind of stuff. do i have a taskbar at the bottom like windows, can i put icons on my desktop like windows, will it be able to find drivers like windows, i want to know EVERYTHING ABOUT LINUX

Get windows xp , linux doesn't a lot of support for most of the games and even if you could play some the "emulators" will have bugs, etc

First of all you are insulting linux. Most people are fed up with windows cos of problems and somehow that problem is financial..lol Names are just name..why is vista called vista ? EH ?. no THAT CUBE is not all about nvidia it supports ATI and you have to go to the respective forums of your distro for more info. Thats what they are for, and that cube goes by the name of Beryl. for more info go here

You say that you play loads of games, in which case forget Linux.

The games you play are designed for Windows, very few Windows games will run under Linux.

yes i think i'll try linux then when i get the money to ill buy windows and set up a dual boot-up with windows... that sounds like the way to go, and thanks for tipping me off to beryl i really dont know much about linux, but im liking it more and more.

and NO i wasnt trying to insult linux cuz its cheap, but that is a true highlight, and i wont pass that opportunity up. i have spent almost $1,000 on my computer, and i want it to run, no matter the operating system.

also, arent there emulators that i might be able to use for gaming? i have heard that i can...

lastly, i already ordered a CD from a online store and im really looking forward to getting it.

thx for your help, matt

Be careful, emulators are illegal a lot of the time and against forum rules to talk about them.
