Software for file trace logging !help!

Hi everybody,does anyone knows any program that keeps a log about which users and when read or modified folders or files in a shared folder in a network server??

In my work,we have a LAN with file server with Windows 2000 server which has some folders and files shared and almost everybody can read them or modify them.I need a program that keeps a log about which network users accessed or modified specific folders or files and when that happened?

I know that there is the solution of permissions on files and folders but I don’t want to use it.

I would be grateful if someone could help me on that.
