Title says everything. On tomshardware, e6750 outperforms the 6600, but the 660 is twenty or thirty bucks more on newegg. Why is this, and which is better?

Also, how does the intel numbering system work? Is higher pretty much always better? Or are there series, such as the six thousand series and the four thousand series?
