Default Gigabyte DS3

I have read two reviews from newegg that really bash this mobo but i mean ive seen many more "good" reviews so im wondering if this could just be because that specific board was messed or is the product in general not good? here are the two reviews

Quote:
Pros: N/A

Cons: I'd love to know what OS people are installing or how they are tweaking the BIOS from the defaults. I have followed the instructions in the manual, flashed the BIOS, and followed all of Gigabyte's tech support instructions and I still cannot install Windows. It recognizes my single SATA drive in the BIOS, formats my drive, installs Windows, auto-reboots, then goes right back to the Windows set-up screen...all the time!!! The Gigabyte SATA drivers don't help. Configuring the hard disk as SATA or SATA in IDE mode in BIOS makes no difference. Enabling SATA0-3 Native has no effect. Enabling AHCI causes the system to freeze on a black screen during POST.

Other Thoughts: In this day and age, a problem like this is really unnacceptable. I bought this board after reading all of the rave reviews. Even installing Windows XP sp2 with their SATA drivers does not work. If you search the internet for this mobo you'll see many threads/blogs with people with the same problem. Giving it one more try this week and then RMA.

Pros: Receives High Reviews From A Great Number of Customers. The board is easy to overclock if that's what you want to do.

Cons: Have tried 3 boards - first DOA, second not able to recognize floppy and then not able to post, third not able to recognize LS120 Drive and ultimate failure to post. With all PCI slots populated and SATA, IDE, & SCSI drive, BIOS is very quirky - Not stable at stock conditions. Many unusual and inconsistent problems. Tech Support is poor with responses unconnected and inconsistent. Board not successful in interfacing with older equipment such as SCSI. Second board was discolored on circuit side. In my opinion very poor quality control and inadequate knowledge of product by technical support. I have built computers since 1986 and this is by far my worst experience. Ten BIOS upgrades in the past few months.

Other Thoughts: I applaud Newegg for their customer service. They have been excellent in handling the multiple returns and crediting my account. I could not ask for anything better. The customer service personnel handled my problems on the first call with courtesy. Shipping of replacement product has been quick and e-mail correspondence timely and informative. NO PROBLEMS WITH NEWEGG. I have given up on Gigabyte and will purchase another brand.

The DS3 is a good board, don't listen to 2 people who got a bad one. Who knows, they might be doing something wrong and that's why it's not working.

My DS4 is fantastic, very stable and with no quirks, it just works really. I'm sure the DS3 will be pretty much identical. I know the S-ATA ports work because this HDD is S-ATA, although that first user may have used the Gigabyte RAID ports instead of the standard ones. I love this board and so so 99.999% of the people who own one, those are just isolated cases. I had one I.T pro love the Gigabyte boards because there are fewer jumpers than some boards.

Judging by your signature, it would seem you already have the DS3

Anyway, I have the board, and I can definitely say it serves its purpose; and it does it extremely well.

The person giving the bad review most likely had the CD drive to boot before the hard drive, which is probably why he didn't like it.
