The cube in the game you keep it with you and it helps you solve some of the in game puzzles (you put it on a button and it opens a door while you shoot a portal through and stuff).

I tried to as well (you can see the crumpled remains in the background of my picture), however I dont think your supposed to do the corners separate if you print on a single A4 piece of paper. Its just too small to cut. Perhaps on a poster sized piece of paper you could cut it out and figure it out. Whoever made the design didnt put consistency in their lines either, some dark lines are for cutting, yet the same line could also be for folding. That about it for tips...
