HDD Crash

Hi - for some reason i am unable to install an operating system on ANY hard disk connected up to my motherboard - when ive tried to install Windows 2000 - it formats the drive (this happens with all drives) then restarts and when it comes to the install wizard it crashes - Ive also tried to install Mandrake Linux 9 - but with similar results - ive reset my BIOS setting to defaults but i am still getting the same problems

- anyone have any ideas?
