Default chkdsk /f.

I cant defrag my hard drive as it says the c drive might be corrupt. I ran chkdsk /f. but it bought up the cmd screen and then it disappeared. did i do something wrong when i typed it in?

Try in command prompt.
In Run type cmd.

EDIT:
If that won't work you can also run chkdsk in recovery console.

chkdsk drive /p /r

i already tried it in cmd prompt, it told me that /f. was an invalid parameter.

how does the second one work? i typed it into run and in cmd, nothing happened.... probs did it wrong though

You need to run Recovery console.
To do that, insert OS CD into cdrom restart computer (boot from cd) and chose correct option when prompted (R).
