Angry Ati Radeon X800 Pro Problem

Hi, can anyone help me out?
Have just installed an ATI RADEON X800 PRO into a GIGABYTE GA-K8VT800 motherboard with an ATHALON 64 processor, running on WIN XP PRO CORP.
All went well until I installed the graphics driver and utillities. then the screen went into standby. (SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 570V tft ) now I can only get in in safemode ore vga mode at 640 x480 res'.
I'm getting an error message which says - "no ATI driver installed , or ATI driver not working properly. ATI control panel will now exit." but device manager says all is installed correctly.
Have tried the bundled VIA motherboard and ATI graphics drivers. followed by the latest versions I could find. - formatting and reinstalling windows in between, - but the result is the same...
What am I doing wrong? It's driving me nuts!

So you:
1. Installed XP
2. Installed DirectX
3. Installed chipset drivers
4. Installed catalyst
... in that order?

Have you asked the IT department?

I am the administrator for this network,- So I've fixed it myself. The problem was a "slot sensetive" mother board.
I swapped the graphics card with another 1 in an identical machine - Now they both work, It tried a similar trick with a 512mb memory stick, which was dealt with in similar fashion.
Now I can get on with building airplanes...thnx 4 all ur help P'
