I use windows media player 11 to organize and play my music. To edit ID3 tags, I use AudioShell (http://www.softpointer.com/AudioShell.htm), which is free and integrates itself into the Properties window of a file.
However, I was curious what everyone here would recommend instead of those two programs. I get the feeling I am a bit in the Flinstone's era when it comes to organizing my music. Can someone also explain the difference between the different versions of ID3 tags for mp3 files? Are some better than others?

I use iTunes to organize and play my music. It's a dream for organization and tag editing.
The newer version(s) of ID3 tags support longer names and descriptions, etc.

foobar2000. Winamp kept crashing for some reason, more often when I used the Modern skins but also when I used the Classic skins.
I don't usually edit the ID3 tags.

Amarok. Brilliant music player that is. I really love the feature that, if the music is tagged correctly, how the player automatically fetches you the album cover image and the lyrics to the songs your listening to.

Hey, thanks for all those responses. I have been checking all of those programs out.
So far, I like iTunes the best. I think I might start using it from now on. I just wish I could change the viewing options so that all I see are small thumbnails of my albums (without the songs listed to the right of the cover art or below the cover art). Is that possible? It seems like an obvious viewing feature, but I can't find it. It's also a bummer that it won't play to many video types like divx etc. I tried to install Amarok to try it out and I had no idea how to install it. I am not familiar with .bz2 files at all and their instructions (although I am sure they are simple) did not mean anything to me. I am just used to good old .exe files. Anyway, thanks again. Any other suggestions are welcome - and any tips on the whole iTunes viewing are appreciated too.

i tunes is a good player, but if you are worried about looks too, then opt for foobar2000, it has extensive functionality, and is fully user configurable too. it might take time to get used to, but when you do you have it exactly how you want it.
some people probably spend more time customising the look of their foobar player than actually listening to music! cheeck out these forums for more info: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/...act=SF&s=&f=28 |
