Unhappy power-on password

is there any way of clearing a "power-on password" on the bios of xp pro? i accidentally set one on my laptop and it is not needed; it just adds another step to startup. thanks for any help.

It is easy to remove if you remember it . It doesn't matter if you have AWARD bios or AMI bios,... Setting this is common(similar) in almost every known BIOS. Simply go to the option, where you set up password and select that choice. Then enter your current password(it asks you for it). You will be asked for new password - DO NOT type nothing(blank) and press enter. Success!!!.

In case that you've forgotten the password, you have to reset bios settings, by removing battery(not good choice ;o) or by jumper on motherboard(see manual for motherboard).

In past it was possible to pass-through this step(in AWARD_BIOS) by typing universal password "AWARD_BS" or "AWARD_BIOS" or "AWARD_SW" (case sensitive)

Talking thank you

i want to thank you very much for the reply. i posted the question on another site and they replied by closing the thread. i didn't realize this information could be sensitive; they mentioned using it illegaly or for bad intentions. i assure you this is not the case. i am fairly new to computers, live out in secluded area (i am a vietnam veteran who lives alone) and don't have access to computer guys. i experiment with things and sometimes it bites me where it hurts. again, thanks for the help. Peace and God bless. dan

POW/MIA........never forget and never again.
