Default Flash memory key, help!

I have a desk top PC and recently got a Laptop. I want to be able to transfer data from one to the other. For example write emails on one and send them on the other. I have a 64MB flash memory key but no idea how it works. I gather it is a USB connection but how does one actually put the data to be transferred on to it?? Sorry if this is a silly query.

1. Network them

2. The usb drive (on mine) shows up as another hdd in "my computer"-drag and drop
That will only work on XP, though, mebbe 2k
