What does it say on the blue screen? (ie. STOP 0x000000c1)

Go to your system properties, advanced tab, under startup and recovery click settings. Under system failure uncheck automatically restart.

There will be 5 numbers you might need, sometimes some of them are unnecessary, so write them all down and post them here.

The 0s are just placeholders here, most could be 1-9 or a-f
It will say STOP 0x00000000 ERROR_NAME (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) then give you some generic message about checking any recent hard/software changes. You just need to get the numbers, the error name can help to, but the first number will let you look up what the error is and ways to possibly fix it.

It's probably RAM but it could also be a more serious hardware problem.

It's in windows. System properties is accessed through the control panel or my computer->right click->properties.

If you can't get to windows start replacing stuff until you can

Start with the cheap/easy stuff and work your way down the list.

Or you could try using the ultimate boot CD or other diagnostic utility disc to try and run hardware tests.
