My comp is running Vista while the computer with the printer attached is running XP Pro.
The network is setup fine, I can see the printer, I can even see the document Queue and the printer properties, but I can't seem to actually connect to it. It tells me that "Windows cannot connect to the Printer. Access is Denied". I also can't seem to connect to the same computer's "Shared Docs" folder either. The networked computer is also setup so that a slave drive is being used as a shared drive among all the computers on the network, and I am able to connect to it fine. There is one more computer in the house that connects to the printer and the Shared Docs folder without problem, its only my computer that it doesn't seem to like. Both File and Print Sharing are enabled and I'm all out of ideas. Any Ideas? |

What name are you logging into the computer as? I mean, do you have an account setup for yourself with all the rights? Maybe you could try loging in as the admin on that machine? Hehe, that's all I do with my dad's machine when I go to print off it. I never bothered to make myself an account there.

I found the problem, its got nothing to do with Firewall's, user accounts or being able to connect to the other computer.
Its just a flaw in Vista. Apparently when you add the printer, you have to add it as a local printer and set it up on a local port, and when it asks for the port, you just have to type in the network location and the Printer name in order for it to connect to the printer. But the problem that I still have is with the Driver. Its an older printer and Lexmark doesn't have any Vista drivers for it yet. So I'm basically screwed until Lexmark or Vista come up with some new drivers. |

You might be waiting awhile, I doubt Lexmark will be coming out with any Vista drivers (Lexmark and HP seem reluctant to do this for older printers...), and who knows when MS will get around to it, or if the drivers even work properly... Best advice would be to get a new printer, but be careful that the new one has Vista drivers or the ability to download them; not all the printers on the market right now do...
