Default 7600GT or 7800GS

im debaiting on weather to get the XFX 7600GT with
Core clock 580MHz
PixelPipelines 12
Memory Clock 1500MHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150210

or the eVGA 7800GS with
Core clock 430MHz
PixelPipelines 16
Memory Clock 1300MHz

both agp 8x and everything else is about the same. price is close enough.

what im wondering is, does the 7800 having 16 piplines make up for the lower value in the clock andmemory speeds??

I'd probably go with the 7600GT. The cards are very close... The 7800 might be slightly better, but the 7600 requires MUCH less power and is newer.

Here is something to look at, some benchmarks. You can scroll through the different test to see each cards performance. I think I got the right cards on that, or close to it.

Wow... I thought the 7600 was a bit closer to the 7800... Hehe I'll remember this next time.

I'd go with the 7800GS

But when comparing them spec to spec, they look pretty similar: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=385&card2=360

What is up with that? The 7600 has a higher clock, why not better performance?

Because clock speed only makes up a portion of what effects performance.

The 7800GS has 4 more pipelines then the 7600GT.

okay.....But with more pipelines, shouldn't the core clock be higher?

It's not like a processor where you multiple the bus speed and multiplier, to come to a higher clock speed. It's similar to why the x1900 series has very high clocks, while the 7900 has much lower clocks, but performance is still the same.

You dont need to have a high clock with more pipes.
