I have had some people tell me that I shouldn't get a LCD monitior because they haven't been developed well enough for gaming, and that I should just get a CRT instead. Is this right? What do you think I should do?

There are some very fast LCDs out now. My room mate has one with a 2ms response time. My 17" has a 7ms response time if I recall correctly and it "games" just fine. Probably the only real drawback with LCDs is that you need to run them at their max resolution. Otherwise they get rather blurry.

LCD's have come along way, almost all LCD's now are 8ms or less, and are perfectly fine for gaming. LCD's also have become brighter, have higher contrast ratios, higher resolutions, and just look better overall.
They also are much cheaper, you can pick up a 22" 2ms w/ 2000:1 contrast for only $250 on newegg.
