Theoretically it's suppose to store sound data, and increase performance by setting it aside on the dedicated sound card, vs system RAM. Performance wise, I don't believe there is a huge difference, and not many games/apps support it.

I would only get it if you can find it at a decent price, otherwise a traditional X-Fi will be fine.
