Sound recording won't work

Hi,

All my attempts to use my pc to record sound have failed. I am trying to record music that I am playing on my PC.

I have a SiS 7012 sound card.

I manage to create a recording but all that can be heard is a wavering, high-pitched whistle.

I have downloaded and tried a whole range of software, such as Freecorder, Silent-Bob, Replay Radio, etc. I have updated the drivers for my sound card.

I have also adjusted the recording volumes for the stereo mix on my sound card, and tried a full range of different recording volume levels.

Is there some other factor that I have not yet looked at?

Do I need to buy a different sound card?

If any one has any ideas, I would be most appreciative of you could share them,

I've found that recording audio on a PC is not simple. From one model/make/manufacturer to the next, the sound hardware changes and therefore so does the way that Windows handles the signal routing. The best thing to do is to double-click on the "volume" doohickey on the taskbar, and see which playback devices are selected. Then, click on the "options" menu, and select the "properties" for it. From there you can check and uncheck various other volume control parameters. Once you are certain that everything checks out properly click on the "Recording" radio button, and check/uncheck all that apply, and make adjustments to the individual input level sliders. Now, test everything out. If it still is not working, then try experimenting with the "mic" and "line in" inputs on the sound card. If it still isn't working, then check the cables that are plugged into the sound card. If it still isn't working, get a Mac and I guarantee that it will work.

Did you checked the microphone volume? Or do I misunderstood the question?
