Default getting new laptop, Intel or AMD

I am helping my sister buy a laptop for work because her last one got stolen. I have been trying to convince her to get a desktop. Anyways, she has some different HP laptops picked out. Some are AMD Turion 64 X2 and others are Intel Core 2 Duo. Which one would be better? I have always heard that Intel's are faster but I really don't know for sure. She will not be doing any gaming, just using it for her work.

I would reccomend the intel processor. Although clock speeds and processor type will matter too.

Overall the Core 2 Duo would be better, but it also depends on the price difference, and what the other specs are.

Core 2 Duo is a lot better than the Turion, AMD is suffering because of the lack of mobility and power of their Turion. Core 2 Duo will extend your battery life and give you some more speed.

I want her to get a desktop because she had a laptop but it got stolen. I just didn't want to have this one get stolen too.

she might need the laptop for the mobility...
in that case, get her a notebook lock. that should prevent theft...
here is the few locks in newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=notebook+lock
the last couple of items are nt related i guess but it jus appear along with the search...

anyway, hope that helps...

lack of mobility??? it's just a difference of 15nm . The weight difference won't matter anyway. Core 2 duo is indeed more power efficient and offers more speeds than the turion. But the turion is cheaper (gets warmer to). Depends on what your budget is. I would go for the Core 2 Duo
