Default Pc Games That Will Or Won't On Vista?

The purpose of this thread is find out from those who have been running the latest versions of Windows released on 1/31/2007 not including the previous beta versions of RC1 and RC2. Those were beta evalution versions only.

A partial listing here shows some older seeing good results while others simply fail. The results posted by current Vista can help those now and later considering whether or not to upgrade from XP or another older version of Windows.

Beside the tool for creating a virtual dos environment known as DOSBox having seen good results. The list here shows others that saw good results or simply failed to install or run. These will be in some chronilogical order.

Games that so far saw working results:

The original Duke Nukem 8bit dos games through DosBox which some are familiar with from different screen captures.
Nukem2 also an 8bit dos game in virtual DosBox window.
Return to CastleWolfenstein 98/ME/XP compatible
Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix GOLD version
EA GAMES 007 NIghtfire
Steam's Half Life 1 and sequel HL2
HL2 Episode One
Counter Strike: Source
FEAR
FEAR Expansion pack
Prey

Games seeing problems with installation or running:

Soldier of Fortune(1st version) Platinum runs well but graphical corruption where charaters have solid color faces and no details. Dead bodies are one solid color like a cut out of the game map. NOT ADVISED!

HL2 Episode One did see two stalls at one point in two different game maps where Steam crashes to the desktop. That was before Creative finally released full version Vista sound drivers to replace the beta.

The above named here are a very small list of games tested for compatibilty with the Vista Home Premium edition. If you are also running this or another version and have tried different games this is the place to post the success or failure with different games.

The one game I missed in the opening here that should be included in the "failed" list is Metal of Honor: Allied Assault. I would have to reinstall the game itself to capture the exact error message seen when going to run the game. The installation went well but...? as soon as the error popup message came up there was no trace of any active processes seen for it in the task manager. Incompatable with Vista? or something else like a need for a patch? Those things will be updated when the info is found on this.

Include on that list World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (I had issues with Addons however), Age of Empires III, and Sim City 4 Deluxe.

With the HL2 package you have the option right there to download and install the free addon CS: Source for multiplayer. In the time running it things went well. Without any villians I simply performed some simple street cleaning while in the game maps. http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/2...leaningpf2.jpg

Please feel free to post any games here as well as in this thread: Vista Software Compatibility. I will add the current list in this thread to the other thread.

Sometimes the compatibility lists can throw you off. What will be the "most helpful" here and available for the compatibilty thread will be actual use with good results with many compared to those were problems are seen. We'll have to compare results later when seeing the responses here to those you see in the lists there.

One thing to add to this is the variables? Sometimes a game or other program will run like a champ on one system while failing on another. Softwares especially games have always been the hardest to deal with when these problems come up.

When you see the games that run good on many Vista systems that's when you will have those to add to the compatibilty list seen there. In a sense we have to perform the benchmarking here while the final results go there.
