What is the best server operating system for a professional web hosting company?
Also, what kind of server would I need to buy to start a professional web hosting company; a traditional computer type or a slim-line bare-bone one? Would I be better off with buying a bare-bone one or building it from scratch?

At my College we been using Linux systems and apache. The setup for the most part have been easy. I know that web hosting company's offer both Windows and Linux/Unix hosting.

I think most people would say Unix for stability, Windows for features and "ease of use". It tends to be much more menu driven, particularly when on the server end.
