Default admin password?

So my computer crashed from a power outage (yeah, surge protector did nothing). I went to use the restore disk, but it asks for my administrator password. I don't remember having a password. I can start the computer in safe mode only, is there a way to find the password?

Without a password originally assigned all you should have to do is simply press the enter key while leaving the password line empty. That would be the same way with the user account logon prompt with no password used. The only time any type of password recovery tool would be needed is if you knew for sure one had been but forgot to make a note of it.

a surge protector wont keep the pc running when the power goes out.
and when a computer suddenly gets shut off, stuff can get corrupted.

In case you are wondering the "Press R now to repair Windows" option brings you to the recovery console for entering different manual commands in order to correct problems there. The "Fixboot" and "Fixmbr" commands are commonly used when the master boot record(mbr) or boot sector information is somehow damaged or lost.

For the situation where no steps taken will restore Windows XP had added the newer repair install option in order to preserve the current files and folders as well as programs installed and still repair Windows itself. The detailed iinformation for this is seen in the article at http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
