Help With Sli

Ok i am currently building a new computer
the board im going with is Asus M2N – SLI Deluxe and i will be running an amd 5600 + dual core with it
now i have no idea how tha sli works, all i no is that you can get 2 video cards to work together
so just say i buy 2x 7600gt, is that going to be better than say a 7900gtx?
i no to you guys it might sounds stupid but like i said, i have no idea how it works lol

No, one 7900GTX is better than two 7600GT
