Default What do you guys think about Vista Ultimate.

What do you guys think about Vista Ultimate.

I am pretty much thinking about putting either that or Home Premium into my system, just cause XP is more expencive.

So what do you think about Vista as a whole?

Kent.

Where are you looking for XP? Some vendors like having high prices kept on the XP Home version while the Pro version can be found for as low as $80 depending on where you are. The XP Pro 64bit edition is seen as low as $50 at some sites for that version. These are OEM releases there. For Vista Home Premium the price is $119.99 and $199.99 to $209.99 for the Ultimate. Both are the 32bit versions there.

At this time the majority of "bugs" have already been worked out of XP while Vista is still in the infant stage as far as programs to some degree along with the lack of early release full version drivers and software patches. Like every previous version from 95 and later you wait for those. For the $80 difference in price between Home Premium and Ultimate there are 4 items to consider. A comparison for these two, Business, and the stripped down Basic edition are seen at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ns/choose.mspx

They were sold at fast when going for the Ultimate version here. But the initial driver problems were more of the concern then going with the lower priced Home Premium edtiion at this time. May be a year or two for Ultimate.

I wouldn't be able to give the best prices where you are unfortunately. But I can mention this to someone who is much closer to see where the best prices are found. But you do mantion OEM which tells me you are trying to do the same I did here in order to keep the total cost down for the new build. That can also be a wise move for seeing a high end build get more of the attention due to the higher prices on hardware there.

Kent.

The first impression asw a response added to the thread there on a few things. Here I have to reply on the things found out so far from running the new version of Windows along with XP on the build here. I didn't really see any major problems with it however. But take a look there for other responses later.
