The hardware are already Vista capable. The problems being seen with sound would be strictly driver related if no Vista version has been released at their support site. Creative even took some time before they removed the beta drivers they had available. The one thing left out of your sig is the make and model board in order to look over the support site for updates there. With the wrong version(XP probably) you won't get very far.

For onboard sound problems Realtek seems to be getting the credit wherever you look. The AC'97 seems to be the grand prize winner! Even the better makes like Asus have been sssslowwww for seeing anything Vista related except for the newer version of the Asus temp probe seen lately. If you have an NVidia chipset on the board you can download the drivers for those on NVidia's own download pages.

Hope you see good results with a link from the tech support there. But whenever a new Windows comes out there's always a wait for something! You would think the other companies would get the drift there. har! har!

For gaming you may want to start considering an expansion type sound sorce over taxing the onboard. Some of the largest power demands are from sound in games over just having a high end video card. The tax on onboard audio chips will often see problems.

That should be left on the disabled list for a gaming machine for backup consideration only in the even an installed card quits just for the basics. I ran into that on the last build here. At least the card manufacturers are starting to get Vista updates out faster then seen for the boards.
