Default Problem of the folder of ''temporary internet files''

I found that my 'temporary internet files' got 12G size!
However, even the folder is empty, there is still 12G hdd space.
Could anyone tell me why and how to solve it?
has my computer been infected by some virus?

u must surf on the internet quite a lot. and u have broadband.

try going to the folder and delteing from there. c:\windows\temporary internet files go to tools and folder options and show hidden files, then delete the folders.

once u have done this go to internet explorer and set the size of the folder to a more managable size - say 500 meg.

If you go into internet options click on advanced and scroll through there you'll come to a check box that says empty temporary internet files on exit.

Check to see if that is checked, if not check it and this will help keep some of the temporary internet files under control as well.

Also, how many accounts does your computer have? Does more than one person use your computer? And if so do they all use different logons?

I had a problem once where my computer showed I had only 3 gigs of 20 gigs left to my hard drive, and I didn't have anything that would take that much space, I deleted everything I could find that might explain what was doing this and still couldn't free up the hard drive, so just for the hell of it I checked another logon that my girlfriend and kids use and low and behold it was plugged, being the administrator I had the option to clean up there end of it and boy did I ever...
But I had to log into there user area in order to delete the files I couldn't do it from my login...

So this maybe another area for you to check..
