hello
i have a hard drive with 2 partitions, and installed linux onto one and changed the partition table and such, which worked fine, but the boot loader would not pick up windows XP. So, i got rid of linux, but then XP would not start, so i reinstalled XP onto the spare partition. Now i have 2 installs of xp, but only one will work. I think that they are both meant to be listed in the MSCONFIG > BOOT.INI tab thing, unless I am mistaken, but only one is listed. Basically, I was wondering how i would get my pc to boot from the other installation, instead of the current one / give me the choice to chose which one to boot. Thanks for any help welshy

In order to install XP onto a second partition you would have had to remove the then Linux root and maybe swap partitions first. That would be easy there to repair with Linux's own Gnome Partition Editor GParted to then expand the existing XP primary into that space and simply boot to the recovery console to use the "Fixboot" and "Fixmbr" commands. The other option after growing the XP primary would be to perform a repair install of XP. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
