hi all,

i got this annoying problem with the new Ubuntu 7.04 running in Vmware,During setup it asks you for a Username and password and i enter in what i want.
then it finished the install and booted into linux but when i try to logon using the username and password i created it keeps saying its wrong

so i thought ok,Maybe i made a mistake when entering the password on the install screen so i re-instaled Ubuntu again and made the username and password again and what do you know....it says its wrong again

i definatly know its not the wrong password,Because i double checked it before i continued with the instilation.

whats going on?
i never had this problem on the previus release of ubuntu

Never used 7.04 but you probably know 7.04 is still in development.Have you tried root ? or is root still disable ?

from your login screen switch to terminal (dunno if it works though). (i forgot the combination of buttons to press to switch) but once you get the terminal type" sudo passwd root " and see if it works...not really sure ,worth a try though

ive tried typing in root for username & pass it doesnt work...also just tried root on its own without a pass and still it doesnt work.

Gonna keep trying

EDIT:I got in,Once more i re-installed and it will accept my pass now

It's not still in development, the 7.04 should give that away.

7 = 2007
4 = April

It was released on the 19th.

Ubuntu 6.06 is more stable, 7.04 still in development.

I'll say it again... 7.04 is not in development.

7.10 is in development.

there are several things you can try. You can exit to the terminal by hitting: ctrl + alt + F1.

from there try running this command

if fsck is not in /sbin do a whereis fsck and then use that path for the command.

Also, I think I remember reading that when you first install ubuntu you have to log in as root, with no password and then set up your accounts. I have no idea why it does that.

To create a user from BASH, you can do this:

Obviously subsitute my user name and password, also the -g may need to be upper case -G every distro is a bit different. if the adduser command is not in /usr/sbin do a whereis again to find its path
