Default Getting Vista

So I have to get a replacement for my laptop (dell is replacing it free due to malfunctions) and now its gonna have vista loaded! I have little knowledge about using vista, but should it work fine on this system:
Core Duo@1.73ghz
1gb 533mhz ram
120gb SATA hd
7900GS go 256mb dedicated
I was wondering what to do to optimize my performance while gaming, which drivers to use and so on and so forth.
Also I play: WC3 WoW CS:S BF2 Trackmania Nations UT2k4 Starcraft Supreme Commander and more, any thing you can say on what will work or what to do to run them.

OUCH! Tell those Dell idiots to put XP Pro on while you still have the chance! The hardwares are not so much the problem as it being the latest Windows now out and still being an infant. Even with the first releases of drivers for XP there were sound and video problems to overcome. Boosting memory to 2gb would be a help there for gaming to keep things running better due to the additional features now seen.

Which version will make a difference as far as the amount of additional items loading up with Windows itself. You will stuck there waiting for updated drivers from Dell to come out. CS:S shouldn't be too bad depending if you are planning to oc or run everything at the highest settings. That's where the games will occasional problems. Yet some older games like Return to CastleWolfenstein will surprise you when seeing those run better then Metal of Honor: Allied Assault that won't even install onto a Vista machine.

Yeah I dont much care, I just want to know I can maintain most of my current game list, I'm building a dekstop this summer of a microATX case for bigger scale lans, I'll be dualbooting XP/Vista on it anyhow. Also I think my dad is willing to sink the money in to put more ram in this thing so I should be at 2gigs sooner or later.

Well one thing is good there! You intend to dual OS with XP. That will allow you to actually see which games will run good. I run Half Life 2, EP1, Prey, Fear, and some older games while MoH: AA refused to go on Vista Home Premium here. But I also have XP Home on the primary drive even while running Vista on the second. Several other programs like PowerDVD and video capture programs need newer Vista compatible if not Vista ready versions.
