Default Nvidia and ATI cross-carding

I just bought a new powerhouse Gateway system and have a dilemma. My ATI AGP card won't go into the new PCI based system. Since I have to buy a new graphics card, I was leaning towards the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS or GTX. I also had an ATI TV Wonder Elite, which I want to upgrade to an ATI HDTV card using the trade-up program. Now the question is; can I use an ATI HDTV tuner card with an Nvidia graphics card or do they both have to be ATI??? Since I haven't bought it yet, if I can only use 2 ATI cards together, then I'll wait for the release of the ATI X2900 XTX (R600) which is due to come out very soon. Since I have a large HD-LCD, I thought HDTV would really work with a high-end graphics card. Only problem is ATI or Nvidia.

Thanks for the benchmarking info but I need to know... Can an ATI HDTV tuner card work WITH an Nvidia graphics card or does the ATI HDTV tuner work ONLY with and ATI graphics card? It seems like putting a Chevy engine in a Ford.

You should be able to put an ATi tv tuner in a computer with an nVidia graphics card. Since for the most part they operate independently of each other, it shouldn't be a problem.

you should be able to use the ATI tuner with an nvidia graphics card. However, do remember that this is a gateway and the PSU might not be able to handle the 8800's.

check your power supply since its an oem computer (which probably wont be enough for the dual video cards) and upgrade that if needed.

but your ati tv tuner and your nvidia video card should play fine together.

The Gateway system I bought was a FX530XV which has a 700W power supply and an 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo with 4MB cache, which equates to a fast 4.8GHz machine packing a 500GB drive with Raid 0. I can handle the power from one, but not sure about an SLI config. The GeForce 8800 GTX needs two power connections whereas the GTS only requires one. Still doing a lot of snooping around/window shopping for a 'right fit' GPU.

Nooooo....just because it has two cores does not mean you get to double the clock speed.

2900XTX was delayed to June

2900XT will be released on May, and it will be priced $399. It slightly faster than 8800GTS but slower than 8800GTX
