Forget what I wrote earlier. LeafPad is what I needed to use to emulate NotePad.
Opera works with flash now... Something about Opera unable to use certain new protocols in the new flash... So I found a slightly older version.
VLC still has slight issues synching audio with video. Maybe I should go watch another movie on it to make sure it was not an encoding problem, though the same file plays fine in Media Player Classic under Windows.
Another thing, I found that VLC -> Audio -> Equalizer -> Party was the closest resemblance to SRS Audio Sandbox for deep bass. Happy happy happy Linux user...
