Default SATA HDD and XP question

Does anyone know why my SATA HDD (C: w/ XP SP2) would register in the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray and how I could get rid of that icon (besides hiding it through Taskbar and Start Menu Properties)? It's no big deal, but it bugs me not knowing why it's there.

Actually, I was looking in the Device Manager and under Policies, write caching is enabled. Basically, it's set to Optimize for performance. Anyway, I guess I'll live with it if it makes it faster.

do not enable cache on disk if you are planning to plug and play with the drive.
