Default Web pages not loading correctly

My wife and I each have our own laptop. They are both connected to the same home network. Each runs WinXP, and Avast anti-virus.

Her computer started having a problem yesterday. MSN, Comcast, and MySpace pages don't load right. Part of the pages will be missing. On the parts that do show up, they are just full of horizontal lines. The mouse knows there is info there, it is just not displayed. If I scroll over a blank area, I can click on it and get action, so there is info still imbedded on the page. It's either just invisible, or the area where it should be visible is replaced by the horizontal lines.

Other pages, like Google, show up fine. Also, when I was messing with it, MSN home page loaded good twice, and then went bad again. Also, when the Comcast page tried to load, the system did a IE error shutdown sequence.

I did a system restore to May 1. I emptied temp. internet files, browser history, and cookies. Still no improvement.

Suggestions?
