Default ram for dell

i just bought a dell c840 and it's actually way worth the 200 bucks i spent for it... but i wanted to upgrade the ram because 256 is just not cutting it, so i'm looking online.. but i ran into a small wall...
cpuz is telling me that it's ddr pc 2300 which according to dell and newegg doesn't exist... dell recommends i get 2100 but i don't really wanna go down lower.. do you guys think that it could run 2700 or should i just stay on the safe side and go lower... (sadly enough the lower also costs more)

You might want to check the prices direct from dell, they nearly said I voided my warranty by adding my own, and it caused me to almost lose all of my work.

nah the prices are garbage dell direct, and it's not like this laptop has any kind of warranty left on it.. it's way outdated equipment at this point and i got it with just the charger and nothing else.. so i wouldn't even know what to do with it if i actually had problems

Then go for the slower ram or check ebay or the like for the right stuff.
