Default Mirroring

I have a server running with Windows Server 2000.

I have two IDE drives, one is for data, and the other is empty ready to be used for backing up the data drive.

I was simply going to schedule a full copy every week, and then thought of mirroring.

Looked at doing this, but Server 2000 wants the drives to be Dynamic to use mirroring, and if you change to dynamic, I can't share the drive over my network to XP machines (so I have been told).

Is there a way to mirror these two drives?

Should I be looking for a simple backup software package like Norton Ghost?

You should be able to share a dynamic partition just like a basic partition. You could also use a hardware RAID controller to mirror them then you can partition them as basic if you wanted.

Can hardware raid be used with IDE?

What would you recommend?

I have read that having the drives dynamic is only compatible with windows 2000?

They are compatible with XP as well. XP is built on win2k.

You can hardware RAID with IDE, here's a bunch of controllers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...oller&name=IDE
They will all be capable of RAID1 (mirroring)
