you could hardwire your printer through your wireless router using a Cat 5 cable.

Then you could share it. However you may need a printserver to do that.
IMO edixmax print servers are the best

If your printer is connected to the desktop you could set up home network and share the printer on your desktop computer.
Then simply add that printer on your laptop.
(You desktop need to be on in order to print from your laptop).
If the OSs on laptop and desktop are different you need to instell drivers for laptop OS. If they are the same (xp and xp for.egz. you're fine).

That is what i was trying to get round to saying, we have 3 computers and 3 laptops in my house, the printer is connected to my dad's computer which with the 2 other PCS is connected to the router via Lan Cable.

The 3 laptops are all wirelessed to the router and while my dad's computer is on can all print off using the printer because it is connected to the netwrok through my dad's PC.

You need to set up home network. ( http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...etworking.mspx )
Then you need to share your printer on that computer where the printer is installed (desktop in your case).
Then on lapto click Add printer and follow the wizard (you need to pick Network printer somewhere in the wizard then point to your printer).
Thts it.

EDIT:
Thats for XP but I don't thing it's much different in vista.
