Default bios doesnt recognize sata drives

long story short: i just cleaned out my case, i didn't think i did anything too stupid. i start up, login, and a couple seconds later it freezes.. so i restart but i doesn't boot up. so i restart again and go into bios and only one of my drives is recognized, its one of striped drive and it isn't my boot drive. i tried using different sata power connectors and i tried plugging my boot drive into other sata ports on the mobo to no avail.

god damnit.

help?

Sata drives don't have jumpers. They run on one device only cables that are usually shorter in length and narrow round type with 7 pins. The real question is just what was unplugged or left plugged in during cleaning. Was the data cable or power feed left unplugged? That will goof the works right there.

2 of the data cables were unplugged, but i plugged them back in properly.

the 2 i unplugged were for the striped drives, not the boot drive

edit: i believe i checked ALL of the cables in the case.

Your OS drive along with one of the other two isn't seen? Are you sure you didn't unplug the host drive when going to clean? Debris could explain why one of the other wouldn't be making contact when replugged. But you may have a bad cable for the OS drive being seen.

what do you mean by that? im sort of confused by your statement, pc eye.

i will work on it today, see if i can do anything. i'm gonna test the drives today.

quick question, i have a striped set of drives for my documents, they were backed up and i'm not missing much, but what if i plugged those drives into another computer, would i be able to see/recover information from them? how would i do that, only reason i wonder is because they are striped. (assuming that they didn't die from an overvoltage/powersurge or something)

edit: my striped drives are alive! recovered the information off of them!

so the drives are not the problem, they are alive. time to check the psu, the cables and the mobo. how would i check the psu?

edit: i got the boot drive working, all is well with my harddrives but there appears to be a problem with the operating system. this thread is over. i will be making on in the OS subforum about my issues.
