I would suggest going with the AMD based on THIS.

Out of those two, the X2 would be better overall, especially for gaming.

well, didn't mean to start a war again..
just need some opinion. it's because, my friend want to upgrade his pc to better perfomance, so he want to give his processor to me.. he got AMD n INTEL and offer me to choose either... So with all reply that i've read, i prefer to take the AMD 64 x2 3800+.... This is first time im use AMD... Before this, all my pc(got 3 pc at home) use INTEL processor... Well, it should be great for me to try it.... Anyway thanks to all of you......

The Core 2 Duo will outperform the AMD X2 series, and you can buy the E4300 for under $115, so thats something you should look at. Especially if he wants to overclock.

Amd, unlessyour going to add some better INTELprocessors in there, and remember like other posts said, make sure your mobo can support it, and you cant stick a AMD cpu in a INTEL mobo (even though i did that before with a socket7 intel processor and it worked, but wayyyy slower)
