Default Big time help needed. Ex HDD maybe erased

Hey, I am currently amidst redoing my desktop computer from linux to windows) when I was using linux, I was having all sorts of video driver problems and this and that, which was the main reason for my switch back. On the reformat, I forgot I had left my ext hdd plugged into the front usb slot on my desktop computer. The screen is all sorts of messed up and It is hard to read, so I was just going through basically on memory. I figured I didnt have anything to lose... oh was I wrong.

I apparently deleted the drive. I did not reformat it however. I just said a lot of swear words and turned it off. I had quite a bit of information on there that I still need, I am hoping that there is a way to get it off. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can do this myself without having to take it somewhere I would be incredibly appreciative. Thanks so much

-Bob

Hi Bob, welcome to the forum.
there are a number of programs out there to recover data in circumstances such as yours, the first important thing is was it a complete format or a low level format?
for a list of freeware programs try this link
or if you simply google "data recovery software" there are many pay to use programs.

Ok, I was in the format partition section, and I did the "D" then "Enter" and "L" maneuver. Im am using the 3rd restore program listed on that site, the problem now is that I do not see the drive showing up. Probably becasuse I did not fully partition it. Any ideas on how to make it show up so I can use this tool?
