Default linksys firmware update

Can you please help me? My linksys wireless router isn't working and they say I need to download firmware. Apparently it is a .bin file and my computer does not have a way to open these types of files. How do I open them or find software to open them? I am completely at a loss...
Thanks so much for any help.

log into your linksys router via web browser

type in

192.168.1.1
or

192.168.0.1

depending on the linksys model and the default login will be

user - admin

password - admin

unless you changed it.

Go to the control panel that is labeled firmware or administration and then update your firmware that way

I'm nearly 100% sure all Linksys routers use 192.168.1.1, but I don't think it's admin/admin. Check your user manual for the defaults unless you have changed it. PM me if you can't get into it and I'll pull the old Linksys out that I have and double check it's original settings.

the combo modem/routers and gateway products are 192.168.0.1 and yes it is always admin/admin for the default, but some of them use a blank user and just admin for the password

I have set up countless linksys devices.....did one for my aunt and uncle over mother's day weekend, it used the 192.168.0.1 by default.

Yeah, that's all I've seen with the linksys routers. As for the IP address, I'm not saying there aren't any out there that don't use 192.168.0.1, but all the one's I've personally configured used 192.168.1.1 initially.
