Default Vista install-->reinstall

im having problems with the vista installer. i have a formattted hard drive with nothing else on it, but the installer keeps locking up. Is it possible i put my hard drive into another computer as a secondary hard drive, install vista to it, remove it and put back into the computer i originally wanted it in, boot it up, and reinstall vista on it? or is there any piracy protection that would prevent me from installing it again, even if its on the same comp?
