Default Server questions

I plan on building a server but I really don't know where to start. I've been told that I don't need to have a GPU since it's a server, is that right? Also, would I need a to run a E6600 to have a decent server or not? I've been looking around go "go-by's" or minimums but I can't find anything. any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well you need to start somewhere...

What type of server? For how many people.. What OS? Do you have a direct internet connection, what speed?

What are you serving ? If it was a basic web server then you wouldnt need anything like a e6600. You would be better getting a prebuilt one from dell or somewhere because you get a real server motherboard and warranty.
