Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 Value...what?

is there a difference between the original SoundBlaster Audigy 2, and the Audigy 2 Value? I thought they were the same card, just with value added later to differentiate from ZS, NX, BS, BFG, etc. but i'm using a creative Digital I/O module (this thing) to run my PS3's optical audio through my PC and out through my logitech x-530 speakers. but i'm not getting any sound. i can't find any options that i'm missing, so the only thing i figure is it's incompatible. any ideas?

Since PS3 and other gaming consoles are geared for tv and home stereo output and composite RCA you would have to patch directly to the input jack on a sound card or onboard. The module probably doesn't recognise the output from the home gaming system there.

You could try plugging the PS3 into the audio of a vcr and then use a cord with two RCA female plugs into one 1/8" mini plug for the line-in jack on the card itself. You then use the Creative sound mixer to adjust the level for sound there.

The main purpose of the Creative module there is for using the analog output from a current Sound Blaster model card upto the latest models is for running digital speakers on an analog audio source with the module being a conversion step there. For PS3 or any other gaming system you would also have need for a conversion of audio there too. The analog output from a vhs system or analog camcorder will easily play through an analog sound card on pc.

yeah, so it turns out what i thought was the digital in on my sound card was actually stereo line in (the "digital out" next to it threw me off, i guess i should read all the labels) so i got a new sound card where that port actually was a digital i/o. so, running from the digital (optical) sound output on my PS3, to the digital (again, optical) input on the module, to the digital i/o jack on the card works nicely. while what you said is true of older consoles, the PS3 is actually meant more for digital connection, though it still has analog outputs for those that need them. the video (and technically audio, though i disabled it) is connected through digital HDMI, and up until recently my sound was being output through analog rca jacks, but that's why i upgraded to this digital setup, which i am enjoying thoroughly. boo tv speakers, hooray surround sound! (i've been on a red stripe kick)

The line in jack is strictly for an analog source as you found out there fast enough. Now you need something that will see both digital and analog inputs for running digital speakers from both pc and PS3 there. Many simply run the audio into a home entertainment center for using those speakers instead of the ones built into a tv whenever possible that way.

yup, the line in was my prob on the audigy 2. but my X-fi has a digital input for that module, so it's accepting the digital from my PS3 no prob, decoding it, and then outputting it through my 5.1 speakers. it sounds pretty freakin awesome, esp compared to my tv speakers.

I'm still running an Audigy 4 Pro here with the very, very same analog input and output jacks. The X-FI there is the way to go for your setup there. I can imagine it does sound far better through a good set of Logitechs over what you would hear with tv speakers? (the agony of it all)
