I will tell you up front. DO NOT. N O T. get a dell!!!!!! unless it is a 2000$ dell, they suck. Everyone complanes about the battery and i think they are to plain no good detail. i have a hp and love it. no problems so far. But i hope people will back me up that all dell is good for is a 1 year cheep laptop b/c after that it WILL die. (brothers... lets see, screen broke. took it off now it is a computer w/ a moniter attached. battery 10 minuts, nothing on it and yet runs like it is 10 mhz.) Good luck

All companies have lemons, you can't base your opinion based off one bad experience.
I happen to love my Dell, so far it's been great and WELL worth the price.

All I can say is don't let a single person steer you away from either of the laptops... As speedy said, some companies have lemons... It also really depends on the user. I hear of so many people who complain about the Averatec 3270(what I own). However, it's truely been a great laptop for me. Some people complained they got less than an hour of battery out of it, and here I still get over two!
As for your question... Eh, if I HAD to pick between those two, I'd probably go with the Dell... However, I've not taken the time to research either like I normally would. Check around, find what others say... See how many posts you can find regarding those laptops. Which posts are problematic, and which are praising it.

Well, i have seen many. 4-5. all the battery died. Also i must be pickey. a averatec was my first laptop. I loved it it was great , but i hate it now, then, the mother board failed and had to return it and it lasted me a year. I have a gateway and it is still going after 2 years. but i got a averitec like 5 years ago when they were still very small so i cant say now. Personaly i have a hp dv9005us and i love it. (everything but vista) but... good luck.
