Default Running 98 inside a virtual machine?

I attmpted installing windows 98SE last night inside VMWARE, and ran into some problems.

I created a virtual partition... check
I mounted my CD-ROM.... check
Booted from my 98SE disc.... check

the rest of the install procedure went fine, but it got to the point where it says that there's 16 minutes left, and a window pops up and says it's preparing to install plug and play hardware.... And nothing.....

I let it sit for 2 hours while i went grocery shopping, took a shower, and then i gave up.

So what's the trick?

VMWARE is prompting me to install 'vmtools' which is a set of drivers specifically for computers running inside a virtual environment, but there's no way for me to install it because windows isn't even running, because it hasn't finished installing yet..........

And VMWARE uses a virtual partition, so there's no way for me to actually boot into this partition, and attempt to finish the installation outside of the virtual environment.

Anyone have this same problem? Or should i try just starting over and see if i have better luck?

vmware tools can only be install when your virtual win98 is running.
If still you can't install 98.
re-add the virtual hard drive. then tick "allocate all disk space now".
I have tested win98 in VM there's no problem with it unless your computer has a hardware doing some conflicts.

or better yet remove all virtual hardware like "sounds, usb,Floppy drive, serial + parallel port etc." then re-boot (your vm 98)

I experience the same problem. I resolve it by keeping the vm in focus during this part of the installation
